Basel Saleh

Conductor, Composer, Singer & Oud Player

Basel Saleh is a Syrian composer, oud player, and conductor of both the London Arab Orchestra and the Orchestra of Syrian Musicians. A graduate of the Higher Institute of Music in Damascus with a Master’s in Music Education, he teaches vocal performance at the University of West London and is a member of the Ivors Academy. His compositions have been performed by major ensembles including the BBC Singers, Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, and Truro Sinfonia, blending classical Western orchestration with authentic Arabic sounds. Saleh has performed worldwide — from Glastonbury and WOMAD to the Royal Festival Hall — and collaborated with artists such as Damon Albarn and Paul Weller.

Naeim Alnajjar

Beatbox Artist, Educator & Guinness World Record Holder

Naeim Alnajjar is a Syrian-born British artist and the world’s first beatbox graduate from the Royal Northern College of Music. A Guinness World Record holder and UK Beatbox Championships finalist, he has performed across top UK and European venues including the Southbank Centre, Bridgewater Hall, and Factory International. Through his work with Music Action International’s Harmonise programme, he delivers therapeutic music workshops for refugees and survivors of trauma. Naeim’s innovative 100% vocal sets combine Drum & Bass, Techno, and Garage, redefining modern beatboxing as a tool for healing and creativity.

Saada Saif

Writer, Editor & Cultural Curator – Founder, Balansia House

Saada Saif is a Yemeni-British writer and editor, founder of Balansia House for Writing and Publishing. She holds a degree in International Relations from King’s College London and is pursuing a Master’s in English Literature. Saada has contributed to the Qatar-UK Cultural Festival 2024 and written for Qatar Foundation and Qatar Museums, focusing on the intersection of literature, culture, and identity. Her work promotes Arab-British literary exchange and creative collaboration.

Saber Bamatraf

Composer, Pianist & Humanitarian Artist – Edinburgh

Saber Bamatraf is a Yemeni composer, pianist, and multidisciplinary artist based in Edinburgh. His work bridges storytelling and social themes shaped by his experiences during the Yemen conflict. A recipient of the Artist Protection Fund Fellowship and Edinburgh Global Scholarship, he has performed at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, TED, and the BBC. Saber is currently pursuing a Master’s in Music Composition at the University of Edinburgh and continues to use music as a platform for peace and dialogue.

Shatha AlTowai

Visual Artist, Performer & Cultural Activist

Shatha Altowai is a Yemeni visual artist, creative practitioner, and performer based in Edinburgh. Her artistic journey, spanning painting, digital art, printmaking, and collaborative theatre and music projects, is shaped by her experience of the Yemeni civil war and her commitment to artistic activism. A recipient of the IIE Artist Protection Fund Fellowship, she has been an artist-in-residence at Edinburgh Printmakers and Art27Scotland, and currently serves as a UNESCO RIELA Affiliate Artist in partnership with musician Saber Bamatraf.
Shatha’s work explores themes of displacement, identity, and heritage, and has been showcased in exhibitions and festivals across the UK, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. She is a winner of the Scottish Women’s Award for Arts & Culture (2022) and the John Byrne Award (2021). Through her art, performances, and public speaking — including at the National Museum of Scotland, PeaceRep workshops, and TEDxLIUSanaa — she continues to champion cultural expression, resilience, and inclusion as tools for peacebuilding and social change.

Dr. Ahmed Al Baghdadi

Educator, Author & Former Deputy Iraqi Cultural Attaché in London

Dr. Ahmed Al Baghdadi completed his primary, secondary, and university education in Baghdad. He earned his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Baghdad, his Master’s from the University of Westminster in London, and his Doctorate from the Islamic University in London.He has worked in teaching and educational management in several high schools across Iraq and abroad and served as Deputy of the Iraqi Cultural Attaché at the Iraqi Embassy in London from 2008 to 2014.
Since moving to London, Dr. Al Baghdadi has contributed extensively to Arabic supplementary education, serving as a teacher, deputy headmaster, headmaster, founder, and curriculum developer. He is the author of the “Arabic Book” series, an eight-level curriculum designed to teach Arabic to children of expatriate communities, now officially accredited in many schools in Britain and abroad.

Dr. Mohammed Shaaban

Biochemist & Researcher – Francis Crick Institute

Dr. Mohammed Shaaban is a molecular biologist and researcher at the Francis Crick Institute and Imperial College London. His research focuses on protein structures and cryo-electron microscopy. A Fulbright Scholar and MIT Technology Review Innovator Under 35 (MENA), he has published in Nature Structural & Molecular Biology and Molecular Cell. Dr. Shaaban is also a science communicator contributing to Nature Middle East and Al Jazeera Science.

Dr. Nour Ghadban

AI Researcher & Computer Engineer – University of Glasgow

Dr. Nour Ghadban is a Syrian computer scientist and postdoctoral researcher at the University of Glasgow, specialising in ethical and biomedical artificial intelligence. Her research explores fairness and gender bias in AI-based health applications. She is a recipient of the UNESCO-L’Oréal For Women in Science Fellowship and a member of the Royal Society of Edinburgh’s Young Academy of Scotland.

Ebrahim Osman-Mowafy

Law Student & Former President, Oxford Union

Ebrahim Osman-Mowafy is a law student at the University of Oxford and the first Arab to serve as President of the Oxford Union. His term was noted for his advocacy of inclusivity and open debate. He has participated in major international discussions on justice, equality, and Palestine, gaining recognition for his articulate leadership and commitment to dialogue.

Ibrahim Khadra

Sports Journalist & Correspondent – beIN Sports

Ibrahim Khadra is a Palestinian-British journalist who began his career covering political and sports news for Palestine TV, then moved to Russia Today in Moscow before joining the BBC and Asharq Al-Awsat. He is currently a senior sports correspondent for beIN Sports, covering Premier League and international tournaments. His reporting is recognised for professionalism, depth, and for connecting Arab audiences with global sports stories.

Mohammed Amin

Journalist & Editor-in-Chief, Arab London

Mohammed Amin is a Palestinian-British journalist and editor-in-chief of Arab London, a platform covering news of the Arab community in the UK. He holds a Master’s degree in Media from Brunel University and previously worked as a correspondent for Al Jazeera Net and several Arab media outlets. An active voice in community affairs, he is a founding member of the Arab Community Conference in Britain and a regular writer for Al-Araby Al-Jadeed and Arab London. His publications include The Arabs and Israel: The Risks of Normalisation (2019) and British Arabs: Challenges and Aspirations (2024).

Ofrah Muflahi

Founder & Director – British Arab Nursing and Midwifery Association (BANMA)

Ofrah Muflahi is a senior nurse and health leader with over two decades of NHS experience. As the founding director of BANMA, she advocates for representation and empowerment of Arab nurses and midwives across the UK. She has served as Professional Lead at the Royal College of Nursing and a Non-Executive Director in the NHS. Her humanitarian work includes leading over 30 health missions supporting injured children in Gaza, coordinating medical evacuations and international partnerships.
